History of MUL
Renowned for excellence in education and innovative research, Minhaj University Lahore was founded in 1986 by Shaykh-ul-Islam Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri with a vision to offer advanced higher education along with promoting Islamic principles and values in a modern educational setting.
In the earlier years, MUL awarded its degrees through Punjab University, however, in 2003, MUL obtained NOC from the government of Punjab and became a chartered university in 2005, awarding its own degrees. Higher Education Commission also recognized MUL as “W3” university.
Initially, MUL offered a range of 2 year Bachelors and Masters’ programs under six faculties, i.e. Basic Sciences & Mathematics, Commerce & Management, Computer Science & Information Technology, Social Sciences & Humanities, Islamic Studies, and Languages. In 2006, 4 years (Hons.) programs were introduced in Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Business Administration, Islamic Studies, Economics and B.Com; along with offering 2 years masters’ degree programs under the semester system in English, Political Sciences, Economics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Business Administration and M.com.
Later on, a number of advanced programs in various in-demand fields were introduced, i.e. Software Engineering, Islamic Economics, Banking & Finance, Medical Laboratory Technology, Food & Nutrition, International Relations, Library & information Science, Mass Communication, Education, and Behavioral Sciences; along with making MUL a pioneer in introducing graduate and postgraduate programs in Criminology & Criminal Justice System, Peace & counter Terrorism Studies and Religions & Philosophy.
By 2015, various in-demand degrees and schools were added meeting the international educational standards and fields along with introducing advanced technological tools and digital resources. In 2017, MUL also accomplished an award of “Best University”.
2020-2021 brought the launching of Hassan Bin Thabi’t Center for Research in Na’at Literature and a number of Post graduate programs, i.e. M.Phil. and PhD in the Faculties of Economics & Management Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, Basic Sciences & Mathematics, Applied Sciences, Languages and Social Sciences & Humanities. In 2021, Faculty of Computer Sciences & Information Technology raised the bar of educational standards in Pakistan by launching the most advanced and globally in-demand programs, i.e. BS Artificial Intelligence, BS Data Science, BS Cyber Security and BS Game Design & Development.
In 2022, MUL scored numerous milestones with the establishment of Shaykh ul Islam Institute of Spiritual Studies, Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences, Centre for Halal Awareness, Research & Training (CHART), English Language Centre, and Online Distance Learning to impart quality education in diverse fields and conduct innovative research to expand the horizons of knowledge.
Being consistent on its idea of conception, MUL is now known as an internationally renowned university offering a blend of Islamic scholarship and contemporary disciplines.
